Healing transforms and liberates. It is our birthright to heal in our bodies, in connection.
I bring over 20 years of experience to my somatic practice; in groups, with individuals, and in community—as a facilitator, listener, collaborator, learner, guest and general doer of what needs doing. From 2017-2022 I taught mindfulness and facilitated psychoeducation groups about stress and resilience at a community health centre. I have accompanied people as a birth doula, and I am shaped by my own healing work and as a parent, daughter, sibling, housemate and partner. I stay grounded in order to do this work by assisting at ongoing Somatic Experiencing and Touch trainings, being in the woods, cycling, walking, making art, and engaging in embodiment practices that tend to my spirit while being with things as they are. I make mistakes and repair.
I found my way to somatic work after a traumatic loss in my thirties. It disrupted years of developing a sense of myself and connection to my body, my place in a community, and my agency. It woke up intergenerational and developmental harms that showed up as hyper-vigilance, fear, and mistrust that I felt exhausted by. These same insecurities became magnified and individualized by the disconnection and harm that are results of the era we are living in. I found myself very good at talking about what was hard and still disoriented in the middle of it all. I had the words and understanding, yet things weren’t changing.
It is through attending to the narrative of my body, re-connecting with myself with less judgment, and earning safety in the consistent practice of regulation that things have been changing. These shifts were made possible with accompaniment into embodiment via the biophysiological platforms for healing and regulation.
As a politicized practitioner, I respect those elements that have supported your survival and aim to hold that in the context of the society we live in, including how that is different for each of us. I connect my work, body, and our sessions to the earth, and to larger systems and power structures across generations. I bring my ongoing embodied learning, social location and desire for collective transformation into the space we share.
